Summer Steelhead Fishing      six fish daily limits     Lake Sammamish Kings up to 45 pounds

Worden's Lures has been busy producing Steelhead and Salmon tackle for over 60 years in Granger, Washington. And when walleyes invaded the Northwest's Columbia River, it was natural for local fishermen to turn to one of their trusted neighbors for the tackle needed to catch one of America's most popular fish.

Over time, walleye fishermen have helped Worden's create a line of lures that take walleyes in nearly every situation. Hawg Boss crankbaits work great trolled on flatlines or run behind downriggers for added depth. Helin FlatFish have been catching 'eyes since the first plug was carved from cedar. Rooster Eyes are effective weight-forward spinners that work well when cast in Lake Erie or trolled on Missouri River flats.

The hidden stars in the Worden's line-up, however, are the floating rigs. Wherever and whenever walleyes respond to bait rigs or spinners, there is a product in the Worden's line that will help you catch those fish at any time of the year.

THE BAIT RIGS

Live bait rigging for walleyes is one of the most effective means for catching these fish. In the simplest form, a rig is a hook, leader, swivel and a sliding sinker. Add a nightcrawler, leech or minnow lightly hooked and you have a tempting morsel for hungry walleyes. But by lifting the bait from the bottom and adding a bit of color and motion, you make this tempting morsel nearly irresistible.

Worden's line of floats-the Lil' Corky®, Winner®, Wobble Glo® and the famous Spin-N-Glo® - add a new dimension to bait rigging. The Lil' Corky, a high-floatation ball, is widely accepted as an ideal addition to a bait rig. The spot of color attracts fish and the added lift provides a highly visible target for hungry walleyes (as well as other predators such as pike, smallmouth bass and Trout).

The Lil' Corky comes in over 65 different finishes including metallics, fluorescents, luminescents and scale patterns that are sure to attract any walleye made. Each of the colors come in six different sizes; however sizes #10, #12 and #14 are going to fit most situations. Worden's sells the Lil' Corky in bulk and in the Lil' Corky Walleye Rig. With the packaged rig comes a snelled bait-holder hook on a 36-inch leader of 8, 10 or 12-pound test.

The Winner is bullet shaped and has higher flotation than the same size of Lil' Corky. It comes in eight sizes and all the Lil' Corky colors. Sizes #8 through #14 have the most use for walleye fishermen. The Winner float is sold in bulk packages only. For walleye fishermen who want a lot of action while still moving the bait slowly, the Wobble Glo is perfect. This float has an off-centered wobbling action that drives walleye crazy! The rig has two #4 up-eye short shank bait hooks and comes tied on high-quality monofilament leader.

The Spin-N-Glo is probably the most versatile of all the Worden's Lures walleye floats. It works well when fished slowly as part of a live bait rig; it's dynamite when trolled in the same fashion as a spinner whether behind a bottom bouncer, sliding sinker or over the tops of weeds.

The only problem with the Spin-N-Glo is choosing the right size and finish for the walleyes you are after. The Spin-N-Glo comes in over 70 colors (including 24 metallic finishes) and eight sizes. Also, on all the colors you can choose between the soft, floppy plastic wings or the new, highly reflective mylar wings. Both will spin in the slightest currents.

The Spin-N-Glo is offered in bulk packages and in a pre-tied Spin-N-Glo Walleye Rig. It is available in six sizes and all the Spin-N-Glo colors.

The Walleye Delight® is a Spin-N-Glo variation designed for trolling behind a wire-armed bottom bouncer or a slip sinker. The Walleye Delight is comprised of a Spin-N-Glo with a Lil' Corky in front and one behind. However, it's much more than the sum of its parts. The Walleye Delight is a super-effective trolling lure when tipped with a juicy crawler.

The Walleye Magic® is the only true snelled spinner in the Worden's Lures line. It's comprised of one Lil' Corky and one Winner float behind a painted French blade. The bulk of the Lil' Corky and Winner floats give the spinner a neutral buoyancy and the quick-spinning French blade provides the lift to raise your bait off the bottom into the walleye's strike range. It comes in two sizes and all Lil' Corky colors.

THE TECHNIQUES

Whether you are fishing with a nightcrawler, minnow, leech or waterdog, live bait rigging is a popular and productive way to catch walleyes. The combination of bait and weight is then slowly trolled (usually backtrolled) along break lines (where the bottom makes an abrupt change) or along other forms of structure. There are times when a simple rig seems to be the most effective, and live bait without any added attraction catches the most walleyes. However, by adding a spot of color ahead of the natural bait as well as flotation, you often will increase the attraction of your bait tremendously.

If all you are looking for is color with only a little extra buoyancy, then the #12 and #14 Lil' Corkies are just what the walleye ordered. Often these little balls of color look like an attractive piece of food which the minnow is trying to eat. Whatever their reason for attraction, the colorful Lil' Corkies draw walleyes to your bait like filings to a magnet. The finishes that have proven most attractive to walleyes are: chartreuse, egg fluorescent, lime chartreuse, fire tiger, pink, luminous spot and the metallics.

Walleye The Lil' Corky can also be used to replace a floating jighead when walleyes are suspended off the bottom. You can do that by using #8 or even #6 Lil' Corkies or the Winner float with its bullet-like shape and extra flotation. Extend your leader until you feel confident that your bait is close to the level where walleyes are suspended. (Hint: to make an adjustable leader, run the sliding sinker on the line, then thread on a small plastic bead. Now run your main line around and back through the bead once again. Tie on the smallest barrel swivel you can find and tie your leader to that. By sliding the bead up the line, you effectively increase the length of your leader. You can also use gum rubber or adjustable bobber stops to do the same job.) By carrying a few of the large sizes of Lil' Corkies or Winner floats, you can eliminate the need for floating jigheads entirely.

The conical Winner floats can be used in the same fashion as Lil' Corkies. Because they have more volume per given size, they offer more flotation than a comparable-size of Lil' Corky. The Winner can be rigged either point or blunt end forward. Point forward helps the float and bait sneak through light weeds. Fishing the Winner with the blunt end forward produces a slight wobble which is attractive to walleyes.

There are two ways to fish the Wobble Glo Walleye Rig. The first is to let the float run free on the leader. The second is to peg the float with a round toothpick (a gum-rubber bobber stop also works). The pegged Wobble Glo forces the bait to wobble in a life-like swimming motion. This is a great way to put life into dead bait. The Wobble Glo is sold in bulk as well as a packaged rig.

Any of the Spin-N-Glo rigs, including the Walleye Delight, are good at any time you will fish a rig or snelled spinner. However, they are even better when fished in the same manner as a snelled spinner. Troll both Delight rigs and Spin-N-Glos on wide flats and sunken reefs, fish them downstream on sandy river bars, troll them along weed edges in natural lakes. If you can think of a trolling opportunity for walleyes, there is a Spin-N-Glo to match.

The Walleye Delight and snelled Spin-N-Glo are interchange-able as far as trolling is concerned (the Spin-N-Glo is better for slow-speed rigging). But it's an excellent idea to keep a good selection of both rigs on hand. Frequently walleyes will favor one over the other. At times, fish will hit the bigger target of the Delight and be less responsive toward the Spin-N-Glo. This often happens when the walleyes are actively feeding, when the water is heavily stained or muddy or when trolling quickly over structure. The bare bones Spin-N-Glo rig is a favorite for pressured fish, for clear water and also when the lake or reservoir is glass smooth.

The Walleye Delight comes into its own when the surface of the lake or reservoir is flat and the spinner bite has died. It also works well when trolled over the tops of weed beds. The Spin-N-Glo Walleye Delight comes in three sizes and all available Spin-N- Glo colors. The Spin-N-Glo rig is made in six sizes (and the Spin-N-Glo itself in eight) and both come in all available finishes.

The Spin-N-Glo can be used on a simple bait snell (as in the Spin-N-Glo Walleye Rig) or on a two or three-hook crawler harness. It is always necessary to place one or two beads between the body of the Spin-N-Glo and the hook to prevent the leader from twisting. Sizes #2 and #4 are perfect for floating a big juicy crawler over the tops of weeds late at night. Use just enough weight to keep the Spin-N-Glo rig ticking the occasional weed top while trolling in an S-pattern over the tops of the weed bed. Use the #12 or #14 when rigging for fishing heavily-pressured lakes.

Worden's walleye rigs offer creative fishermen the chance to build and modify their walleye gear to meet any situation on lake, river or reservoir. The Lil' Corky, Winner and Wobble Glo floats and the Spin-N-Glo line-up give walleye fishermen the widest choice of sizes, colors and actions on the market. If there is a walleye out there, Worden's Lures has the way to catch it.
